myth (v.) - a non-malicious act of lying in which a creative intends to
inform and/or entertain a recipient. (also mythy, -ier, -iest)
Words have surrounded me since my mother first sat me on a newspaper to keep me distracted. While I didn't exactly complete the crossword puzzle, I was delighted by the contrasts and patterns possible within the structure of the page. I carry that lens of curiosity & fascination to this day. (Translation: I'm easily distracted.)
I've been writing since high school and while it's stuck with me all this time, life's roads diverge. I chose those less traveled, making time for service in the Communications Reserve, shipping/receiving at a record warehouse (imagine a semi-trailer full of Captain Fantastic), four+ decades in the television industry, mountaineering, club & tournament Scrabble©, a BFA in Art (for art's sake), editorial stints for fanzines, newsletters, literary arts, my own writing projects, workshops, retreats... It's all a big bag of yarn that regularly manifests in poetry, short & long fiction, a well-timed quip to slice through tension, & an occasional cry of "Challenge!" from an outraged opponent.
we all myth something, moment to moment:
what our senses tell us; what we tell others;
how our lives have & will unfold.
if I can make someone laugh, it's a good day.
if I can help you out of a corner you've written yourself into, even better.
